Job Description
The Senior Accountant will manage operational accounting activities related to solar project assets, project and debt accounting, and financial reporting, while supporting process improvements and collaborating with cross-functional teams in a fast-growing renewable energy company.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage inventory accounting related to solar project assets and participate in inventory systems development.
- Perform project accounting activities including journal entries, expense accruals, and capitalized labor treatment.
- Ensure debt and equity are recorded accurately per GAAP and partnership agreements, and support debt draws.
- Handle all intercompany transactions and eliminations according to company policies.
- Lead the monthly close process, including reconciliations, journal entries, and review for accuracy.
- Create and maintain documentation for accounting processes and controls.
- Conduct period-end analysis, including budget versus actual and management discussion analysis.
- Support and coordinate annual financial statement audits and perform ad hoc analysis.
- Own and execute inventory, project, debt, and equity accounting activities to ensure compliance with GAAP.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- CPA or progress toward certification strongly preferred
- 4 to 6 years of relevant accounting experience contributing to a high-performing operational accounting team
- Experience in solar development or construction industry desired
- Understanding of GAAP and management accounting
- Experience managing material and supply inventory, including accounting, reporting, and transaction processing
- Experience reviewing debt documents, accounting for debt and accrued interest, creating and maintaining debt roll forwards, and reconciling debt
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis
- Experience with contributing to financial statement audits
- Proficiency in ERP systems, such as Sage Intacct or NetSuite
- High proficiency in Office 365 skills
- Demonstrated ability to document, maintain, and improve accounting processes and controls
- Experience driving efficiency, operational automation, and standardization of processes
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders
- Experience partnering with procurement, operations, and other teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to operate effectively in hybrid, remote, and in-person team environments
- Must have a change mindset and the desire to proactively identify opportunities to improve processes and adapt to evolving business needs
- Proactive and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to clearly communicate problems and identify possible resolutions
- Proven ability to manage workload independently and prioritize deadlines with competing priorities
- High degree of ownership and accountability

- Self-motivated with a team-oriented approach, contributing to a collaborative, cross-functional team environment
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude
