The Health Safety Manager is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety policies across solar energy projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, promoting a safety culture, and managing safety programs at construction and operational sites.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures aligned with regulations and industry best practices
Oversee contractor safety programs, site-specific safety activities, and training
Conduct safety audits, document safety violations, and analyze safety data
Lead OSHA reporting, monitor subcontractor safety activities, and review safety plans
Establish and enforce safe work systems for high-risk activities such as electrical work, lifting, and hot works
Lead incident analysis, response planning, and mitigation efforts
Collaborate with safety personnel, union representatives, and insurance risk engineers
Ensure maintenance and inspection of safety equipment
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
Professional Health Safety certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, CSP, or equivalent.
Minimum of 6 years of health and safety experience, preferably within renewable energy, construction, or electrical infrastructure projects.
Proven experience managing health and safety on construction sites, preferably utility scale solar sites.
Strong knowledge of solar PV systems and associated construction risks.
Knowledge of electrical safety standards for solar PV DC arc fault risks, lockout tagout procedures.
ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification.
Experience working with EPC contractors and subcontractors.
A proven ability to provide efficient, timely, and reliable service to project stakeholders.
Self-motivated with proven ability to take ownership, initiative, and accountability.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to manage competing priorities often across functional and operational lines.
Ability to contribute to an amicable working environment with other associates and employees.
Position requires frequent travel, approximately 30 to 50 percent in the field, depending on time of year.
Must carry an active driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.
Excellent PC computer skills and familiarity with MS Office and Windows.
