Job Description

The Senior Onboard Software Engineer will develop and maintain on-orbit software that monitors and controls space vehicle elements, including computational environments, external equipment interfaces, and core vehicle services such as file transfer, automation, and navigation, supporting Loft's satellite missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain on-orbit onboard software for space systems
  • Monitor and control space program elements, including flight products and computational environments
  • Interface with external equipment such as imagers, RF, ISL, and spacecraft bus
  • Implement and support high-level vehicle services like file transfer, time synchronization, automation, scheduling, attitude control, and navigation
  • Ensure onboard software architecture is robust and reusable across satellite programs

Requirements

  • Proven experience in developing onboard software for space systems, including monitoring and control of major space program elements such as Flight Products computational environments including physical and virtual processors.
  • Experience interfacing with external equipment such as imagers, RF systems, ISL, and interfacing with the spacecraft bus.
  • Knowledge of high-level vehicle services and functions, including file transfer, time synchronization, automation, scheduling, attitude control, and navigation.
  • Ability to develop software that can be reused across multiple satellite programs and contribute to onboard architecture.
  • Strong communication skills in English to collaborate effectively within an international team and convey complex ideas clearly.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with autonomy and ownership on significant technical challenges.
  • Educational background in a relevant field such as Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines (implied but not explicitly specified).
