Job Description
A Senior Ground Segment Engineer is responsible for developing and managing software and systems to operate and ensure the reliability of a fleet of in-orbit satellites, including configuring mission control systems, optimizing satellite communication, and collaborating with various teams to support satellite deployment and operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and configure software to operate in-orbit satellites and manage ground segment connectivity.
- Coordinate with ground station providers and product teams to expand and optimize ground station connectivity.
- Manage cross-fleet contact allocation and planning to maximize communication opportunities and reduce latency.
- Work with teams to manage satellite deployment, commissioning, and operational readiness.
- Potentially serve as a rotating Flight Director, overseeing satellite health and safety.
- Ensure the reliability and scalability of the global satellite network through network infrastructure expertise.
Requirements
- Experience in building software to operate a fleet of in-orbit satellites and preparing for operating different satellite buses in a variety of configurations.
- Expertise in ensuring reliable, efficient, and scalable connectivity between satellites via ground stations and inter-satellite links.
- Experience configuring Cockpit, Loft's mission control system, to expand ground segment connectivity, working with ground station providers and product teams.
- Ability to manage cross-fleet contact allocation and planning, optimizing resource usage to maximize communication opportunities and minimize latency.
- Experience working closely with teams such as Space Infrastructure, Spacecraft Deployment, Mission Deployment and Execution, and regulatory teams to manage commissioned satellites and prepare for new satellite commissioning.
- Opportunity and ability to become a rotating Flight Director, responsible for the health and safety of the satellite fleet.
- Expertise in network infrastructure to ensure the reliability of the global satellite network.
- Proven experience in satellite operations, connectivity, or related fields relevant to satellite fleet management.
- Ability to work in an international environment and collaborate across multiple offices (San Francisco, CA; Golden, CO; Toulouse, France).
