Job Description
The Lead Software Engineer will lead a team of engineers focused on developing and supporting energy management solutions within the UK electricity and gas markets, leveraging technologies like Python, React, and AWS to drive innovation and improve customer experiences in the energy industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of 5-7 engineers focused on the UK electricity and gas market, supporting the MHHS project.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team.
- Support UK-based clients and market operations through software development and maintenance.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to develop and enhance energy management platforms using technologies like Python, Django, React, and AWS.
- Contribute to continuous integration and deployment pipelines, monitoring, and performance measurement tools.
Requirements
- Experience in leading a team of five to seven engineers, including technical leadership and management responsibilities.
- Proficiency in supporting UK-based clients and working within the UK energy market, specifically on projects related to electricity and gas industry regulations and systems.
- Strong knowledge of Python, with experience in server-side development using Python.
- Experience working with Django and GraphQL (Graphene) for web development.
- Proficiency in client-side technologies including React, Next.js, Typescript, htmx, and SASS.
- Experience in mobile app development using native code or React Native.
- Experience with AWS services as part of a continuous deployment pipeline, including Django, ELB health checks, and related AWS tools.
- Ability to work within an engineering environment that employs tools such as Notion, Asana, Github, CircleCI, Terraform Enterprise, Datadog, Sentry, and Cloudwatch.
- Ability to support and maintain systems related to the UK electricity and gas markets, including understanding of the MHHS project or similar large-scale energy market changes.
- Demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, delivering exceptional customer experiences, and fostering a culture of speed of innovation.
- Willingness to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment with UX experts, copywriters, and designers.
- Ability to adapt to a flexible working approach, often using a Kanban-like methodology for project management.
- Strong communication skills to lead and coordinate with team members and support UK-based clients.
- A minimum of several years of professional experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend, frontend, or full-stack development in a relevant industry.
- Educational background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (implied but not explicitly stated).
