Job Description
The Associate Director Transmission leads strategic engagements related to electric transmission planning, regulation, and project management for utilities, providing expert guidance, managing cross-functional teams, and driving business growth within the energy consulting sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategy engagements for utilities and transmission businesses.
- Structure and own day-to-day client relationships and project management.
- Coordinate internal and external cross-functional teams in transmission planning, engineering, regulatory, finance, and delivery.
- Develop business cases, prioritize portfolios, and track KPIs related to transmission projects.
- Formulate partnership strategies and organizational structures for transmission initiatives.
- Drive strategic project and thought leadership to support business growth.
- Provide technical expertise in electric transmission, including ISO RTO planning, interconnection, and capital planning.
- Coach and mentor team members, ensuring quality and clarity in deliverables.
- Navigate stakeholder dynamics and facilitate decision-making at senior levels.
Requirements
- Subject matter depth in electric transmission, including ISO RTO transmission planning processes, interconnection and deliverability concepts, corridor right-of-way (ROW) and permitting basics, and capital planning.
- Experience structuring ambiguous problems, choosing appropriate levels of detail, and developing solutions within specified time budgets.
- Ability to anticipate challenges and create plans to mitigate risks during project execution.
- Proven coaching skills to guide team members in answering questions and reviewing results and storylines based on industry experience.
- Executive presence to navigate client stakeholder dynamics, align senior leaders, and drive decisions in high-stakes settings.
- Experience leading strategy engagements for utilities and their transmission businesses, including problem structuring, client leadership, and coordination of internal and external cross-functional teams such as transmission planning, engineering, regulatory, finance, and delivery.
- Strong project management and leadership techniques to independently create and actualize work plans that are efficient and provide guidance to clients.
- Ability to work full-time in a hybrid environment, including working extended hours in front of a computer and conducting meetings virtually or via telephone.
- Availability to travel occasionally, up to 10% of the time.
- Educational background or professional experience demonstrating strong analytical dexterity or policy experience related to energy or electricity industries.
