Job Description
The Associate Director Transmission leads strategic engagements related to electric transmission planning, regulatory, and organizational aspects for utilities, managing cross-functional teams and providing expert guidance to drive energy infrastructure projects and policy implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead strategy engagements for utilities and transmission businesses.
- Structure and own day-to-day client leadership and communication.
- Coordinate internal and external cross-functional teams in transmission planning, engineering, regulatory, finance, and delivery.
- Develop business cases, prioritize portfolios, and track KPIs related to transmission projects.
- Formulate partnership strategies and advise on organization structure and governance.
- Drive strategic project and thought leadership to support business growth.
- Manage and develop project work plans, ensuring efficient execution and high-quality guidance.
- Navigate stakeholder dynamics and align senior leaders to facilitate decision-making.
- Contribute to shaping and developing the E3 Practice Area in transmission and energy policy.
Requirements
- Subject matter depth in electric transmission, including ISO RTO transmission planning processes, interconnection and deliverability concepts, corridor right-of-way (ROW) and permitting basics, and capital planning.
- Experience structuring ambiguous problems, choosing appropriate levels of detail, and developing solutions within specified time budgets.
- Ability to anticipate challenges and create plans to mitigate risks associated with transmission projects.
- Proven coaching skills to guide team members in answering questions and checking results and storylines based on industry experience.
- Executive presence to navigate client stakeholder dynamics, align senior leaders, and drive decisions in high-stakes settings.
- Strong analytical dexterity and/or policy experience related to energy and electricity markets.
- Demonstrated ability to independently create and actualize work plans that are efficient and provide guidance to clients.
- Experience leading strategy engagements for utilities and their transmission businesses, including problem structuring, client leadership, and coordination of cross-functional teams (transmission planning, engineering, regulatory, finance, delivery).
- Knowledge of business case development, portfolio prioritization, KPI tracking, partnership strategy, and organization structure and governance in the context of transmission projects.
- Ability to work in a hybrid work environment, including working from the office at least 2-3 days per week and conducting meetings virtually or on the telephone.
- Willingness and ability to work extended hours in front of a computer screen.
