Job Description

The position involves leading on-site safety management during the construction of a utility-scale solar project, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, conducting inspections and investigations, and fostering a proactive safety culture to support project success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary on-site safety representative during project construction
  • Oversee and monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with OSHA regulations and safety policies
  • Conduct daily safety observations, inspections, and audits, and track corrective actions
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and develop corrective and preventive actions
  • Review and approve Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and high-risk work plans
  • Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site safety orientations
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to field leadership and craft personnel on safety performance
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, reports, and metrics for project and corporate leadership
  • Partner with project management to integrate safety into scheduling, planning, and execution activities
  • Model and promote safety values and expectations as a visible safety leader on site

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of construction safety experience, preferably in utility-scale solar, renewable energy, or heavy civil industrial construction.
  • Proven experience functioning in an owner’s representative or site safety leadership role.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations 29 CFR 1910 and 1926 and construction safety best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a field environment, influence without authority, and build strong working relationships with contractors and project teams.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient in conducting audits, inspections, incident investigations, and safety coaching.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification is required.
  • Additional preferred certifications include CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician), First Aid, CPR, AED, and Train-the-Trainer or equivalent safety training credentials.
  • Ability to serve as the primary on-site safety representative during project construction and oversee contractor and subcontractor compliance with OSHA regulations, site-specific safety plans, and company HSSE policies.
  • Ability to conduct daily site safety observations, inspections, formal audits, and track and close corrective actions.
  • Experience leading incident investigations, root cause analyses, and developing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Experience reviewing and approving Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and high-risk work plans.
  • Ability to facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and site safety orientations.
  • Ability to provide coaching and mentorship to field leadership and craft personnel to improve safety performance and leadership behaviors.
  • Ability to act as a problem-solver and mediator for safety-related conflicts, promoting fair and consistent enforcement of safety expectations.
  • Strong field presence with the ability to coach, mentor, and influence positive safety behaviors.
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills in dynamic construction environments.
  • High integrity with consistent enforcement of safety standards.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and managing challenging safety situations professionally.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and reporting skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Procore HIS.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures, including wearing PPE such as hard hats, arc flash protection, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Physical ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
  • Physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
