Job Description
A Field Service Technician at Cypress Creek Renewables performs preventative and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, troubleshooting and repairing electrical components to ensure optimal operation while adhering to safety standards in a fast-paced, travel-intensive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems on-site
- Conduct electrical testing such as polarity checks, insulation resistance, and I-V curve tracing
- Maintain tools, meters, vehicles, and spare parts inventory
- Create service reports and document system issues and repairs
- Identify and eliminate safety hazards during maintenance activities
- Respond to emergency repair cases and on-call service requests
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and electrical codes during maintenance
Requirements
- Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in PV maintenance, including PV DC operations, AC medium voltage systems, network communications, and monitoring.
- Experience performing preventative maintenance activities on solar PV systems, including on-site routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic facilities.
- Ability to conduct DC and AC testing such as polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding continuity, communication, insulation resistance testing, and I-V curve tracing.
- Proficiency in the use of testing equipment and tools including thermographic electrical inspection devices, IV curve tracers, megohmmeters, and ground fault detection tools.
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code and standard design construction practices.
- Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid Driver’s License.
- OSHA 10 HR Training certification.
- NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace certification.
- Must have the ability to travel, work on-call during off-shift hours and weekends, and be deployed to project sites based on business and project needs.
- Physical ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Understanding of and adherence to safety and quality procedures and practices, including the use of PPE such as hard hats, arc flash protection, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- Ability to create service reports and maintain spare parts inventory.
- Ability to identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations as directed by supervisor.
- Ability to work in both field and office environments.
