Job Description
The role involves leading technical interconnection and grid integration strategies for utility-scale solar and storage projects, including analyzing power system behavior, managing interconnection processes, and advising on market and policy developments to optimize project deployment and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Screen and qualify potential interconnection points across the portfolio based on cost, timing, constraints, and upgrade risk.
- Conduct power flow analyses to identify capacity and forecast interconnection costs and timing.
- Develop tools and workflows to improve screening processes for interconnection studies.
- Design physical interconnection configurations for generation and large load facilities.
- Validate and replicate ISO RTO interconnection study results to ensure accuracy and challenge assumptions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce network upgrade requirements through queue strategy and project optimization.
- Support the development of interconnection strategies aligned with regulatory frameworks and market rules.
- Provide technical input and strategic advice during GIA negotiations and project planning.
- Represent CCR in discussions with ISOs, RTOs, and utilities on interconnection and tariff updates.
- Partner with internal teams to define and communicate CCR’s interconnection value proposition.
- Maintain internal systems, databases, and workflows to enhance transparency and efficiency in interconnection processes.
Requirements
- BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline from an accredited university
- At least 8 years of transmission planning experience as a utility planner, generation developer, or consulting engineer
- Prior experience working across multiple ISOs and utilities with detailed knowledge of interconnection study methodologies
- Proficiency with power flow software such as PSS E, PowerWorld, TARA, or equivalent
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize across multiple simultaneous workstreams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical findings clearly to non-technical audiences
