The role involves leading technical interconnection and grid integration strategies for utility-scale solar and storage projects, including analyzing power system behavior, managing interconnection processes, and advising on market and policy developments to optimize project deployment and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
Screen and qualify potential interconnection points across the portfolio based on cost, timing, constraints, and upgrade risk.
Conduct power flow analyses to identify capacity and forecast interconnection costs and timing.
Develop tools and workflows to improve screening processes for interconnection studies.
Design physical interconnection configurations for generation and large load facilities.
Validate and replicate ISO RTO interconnection study results to ensure accuracy and challenge assumptions.
Identify opportunities to reduce network upgrade requirements through queue strategy and project optimization.
Support the development of interconnection strategies aligned with regulatory frameworks and market rules.
Provide technical input and strategic advice during GIA negotiations and project planning.
Represent CCR in discussions with ISOs, RTOs, and utilities on interconnection and tariff updates.
Partner with internal teams to define and communicate CCR’s interconnection value proposition.
Maintain internal systems, databases, and workflows to enhance transparency and efficiency in interconnection processes.
Requirements
BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline from an accredited university
At least 8 years of transmission planning experience as a utility planner, generation developer, or consulting engineer
Prior experience working across multiple ISOs and utilities with detailed knowledge of interconnection study methodologies
Proficiency with power flow software such as PSS E, PowerWorld, TARA, or equivalent
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize across multiple simultaneous workstreams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical findings clearly to non-technical audiences
