Job Description
The Summer Ecology Project Associate Intern supports ecological restoration projects in Virginia through fieldwork such as stream and wetland delineation, vegetation monitoring, and biological surveys, while also assisting with data management and technical documentation in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support stream and wetland delineation, vegetation monitoring, and restoration assessments in the field
- Collect and maintain field data using GPS and mobile applications
- Support biological surveys and geomorphic stream surveys
- Conduct hydrologic monitoring, including stream flow, flood, and groundwater measurements
- Download and maintain field gauges and devices
- Assist with data entry, organization, and technical report preparation
- Perform restoration site maintenance and management tasks
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field
- Interest in ecological restoration and comfort working outdoors in variable conditions
- Ability to interpret field maps and follow field protocols
- Strong attention to detail for accurate data collection and data entry
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented working style
- Willingness to work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, and humid conditions, including walking long distances and traversing uneven terrain through thick vegetation
- Ability to climb, bend, kneel, lift, carry equipment, and perform sustained physical activity
- Willingness to travel extensively across Virginia, including overnight stays
