Job Description
The Solar Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing solar PV systems to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable operation of solar power plants. The role involves performing preventive and corrective maintenance, operating plant systems, and adhering to safety and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, maintain, service, and repair solar PV systems and associated equipment.
- Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on solar equipment.
- Operate electrical and mechanical systems of the solar power plant.
- Execute electrical troubleshooting, instrumentation calibration, and complex maintenance tasks.
- Complete work orders and documentation related to maintenance and operations.
- Ensure all work complies with environmental and safety regulations.
Requirements
- Possess a high school diploma or GED, or be willing to obtain a GED within the first 6 months of employment.
- Demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
- Understanding of general workplace safety and the ability to follow safety standards, as well as help the company improve upon the standards in place.
- Ability to operate a computer with technical proficiency of standard business software.
- Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a multi-tasking team.
- Valid state driver’s license and good driving record, with the ability to drive a company vehicle.
- Ability to work overtime and non-standard working hours including nights, holidays, and weekends, when needed.
- At least 1 year of experience in a power plant or PV Solar operations and maintenance (O&M) experience.
- At least 2 years of field experience with significant electrical, instrumentation, and control (I E, I C, and/or C I) experience, or electrician experience considered in lieu of solar experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, including electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid state theory application.
- Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices installed in power facilities.
- Four years of PV solar experience, with I E, I C, and/or C I electrician experience considered in lieu of applicable experience.
- Proven experience with electrical construction projects.
- Knowledge of complex analog and digital instrumentation and control systems.
- Proper methods for troubleshooting, repairing, and adjusting instruments and control systems.
- Experience administering safe methods to clear equipment, use of tools, and plant safety rules.
- Understanding reporting procedures, maintenance procedures, and practices.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical prints and PV solar plant terminology and nomenclature.
- Qualified to perform routine and emergency operations at a solar generation facility and switchyard.
- Able to communicate verbally and in writing effectively.
- Able to work without direct supervision during performance of work.
- Able to travel approximately 5% as required.

Salary range: $54,000 - $107,000 depending on experience and location
