Job Description

The Operations Specialist I supports the real-time monitoring, performance analysis, and operational management of renewable energy assets such as wind, solar, and battery storage, ensuring safety, reliability, and environmental standards while coordinating with internal teams and external entities in a high-pressure, rotating shift environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyze real-time activities, performance, and operational status of assets to identify root causes and maintain data integrity.
  • Identify and react to abnormal operating and alarm conditions during shifts.
  • Manage power plant operations considering location, generation type, regulations, and contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate and document remedial actions to maximize equipment availability and revenue.
  • Interpret and execute activities related to asset contracts, capacity scheduling, telemetry, and remote-control capabilities.
  • Operate multiple power plants in compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external entities for plant status verification, downtime reporting, and operational instructions.
  • Support commissioning of projects through test energy scheduling and ensuring safety, regulatory, and environmental compliance.

Requirements

  • Ability to support all day-to-day real-time Reporting, Performance, and Monitoring Center activities, acting as the on-shift Operations Specialist for all assets under the CEG 6 GW portfolio, including Wind, Solar, and Battery Storage.
  • Experience working 12.5-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure continuous operations and monitoring of the utility fleet.
  • Proven experience in SCADA systems, renewables technician roles, or other electrical experience.
  • Ability to proactively monitor and analyze real-time activities, performance, and operational status of energy assets to determine root cause and maintain data integrity for operational events.
  • Ability to understand and proactively identify abnormal operating and alarm conditions during shifts and react accordingly.
  • Experience managing power plant operations considering location, generation type, interconnect requirements, regional regulations, and customer contractual requirements in a high-stress and time-sensitive environment.
  • Ability to coordinate, document, and implement remedial actions to maximize equipment availability and production revenue according to pricing, resources, forecasts, and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and execute activities related to asset contracts such as PPAs, LGIAs, and O M agreements, including capacity scheduling reporting, telemetry issues, or remote-control capability impacts.
  • Experience operating multiple power plants in accordance with regulatory operating requirements such as CPUC, WECC, and Prudent Utility Practices.
  • Ability to coordinate with Field Operations teams, including Site Managers, Supervisors, and technicians, for plant status verification, downtime reporting, and safe remote equipment actions.
  • Ability to coordinate with external entities such as Scheduling Coordinators, Transmission Operators, and Reliability Entities for status notifications or Operating Instructions.
  • Experience supporting project commissioning activities by coordinating test energy scheduling and power plant operations, ensuring safety, regulatory, environmental, and operating compliance.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in Operations or a Solar and Wind Field Technician role.
  • Competent technical knowledge of plant and system processes, including electrical and SCADA systems operation.
  • Ability to take direction, identify problems, develop solutions, and conduct analysis independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for working in difficult customer situations.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment where decisions directly impact personnel safety and equipment reliability.
  • Availability to work rotating shifts of 12.5 hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Availability for 24-hour on-call duty to meet customer requirements.
