Job Description
This position involves leading the design and technical oversight of plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, including BIM modeling, client interface, project management, and team mentorship within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems in large-scale buildings
- Work independently across all Mechanical disciplines and assist with HVAC designs as needed
- Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members
- Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems
- Specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, and pumping equipment
- Review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
- Participate in or lead value engineering sessions with the architectural and engineering team
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress
- Attend and participate in construction meetings and interface with clients and project team members
Requirements
- Minimum ABET EAC Bachelor degree or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience required.
- Current PE in Mechanical or FPE in the United States required.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes required.
- Must be a fully qualified professional able to perform work with a high degree of latitude and work independently with no oversight or guidance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus required.
- Perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings.
- Perform Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings as required.
- Specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, water softeners, and pumping equipment.
- Review and accept selective shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of site.
- Attend and participate in construction meetings and interface effectively with clients and project team members.
- Respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team, including development and presentation of annual performance reviews.
- May serve in the QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
- Participate or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering team.
- Conduct staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Perform site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
- Represent the company in project activities and direct activities of project team members.
- Interface effectively with clients and members of the design team, including attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
- Respond to requests for information (RFIs) and review change orders during construction document preparation.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to the scope of the role.
