Job Description
This role involves leading the design and technical oversight of plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for large-scale building projects across various sectors, while providing mentorship, ensuring compliance, and collaborating with clients and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems.
- Work independently across all Mechanical disciplines and assist with HVAC designs as needed.
- Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
- Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems.
- Specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, and pumping equipment.
- Review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Participate in project meetings, including owner, architect, and construction administration meetings, with a focus on project budget.
- Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to improve project quality and coordination.
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
Requirements
- Minimum ABET EAC Bachelor degree or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience required.
- Current PE in Mechanical or FPE in the United States required.
- Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes required.
- Must be a fully qualified professional able to perform work with a high degree of latitude and work independently with no oversight or guidance.
- Experience in performing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings.
- Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling of HVAC systems as necessary.
- Experience specifying equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, water softeners, and pumping equipment.
- Ability to review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience reviewing RFIs and change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Ability to conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interface with clients and project team members.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
- Must be able to work independently with no oversight or guidance.
- Ability to participate in or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering team.
- Ability to conduct staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders related to construction documents.
- Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings and site visits, including physical walk-throughs.
- Ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design and construction team.
- Must be able to serve in roles that may include technical leadership, QAQC, and independent review.
- Must be physically capable of site visits that may require walking and physical inspection of construction sites.
