This position involves leading the design and oversight of HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, including modeling, equipment specification, and coordination with project teams, while providing technical leadership and ensuring project quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Design and oversee HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings
Perform independent mechanical design work across disciplines and assist with plumbing and fire protection designs as needed
Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to design and engineering team members
Create Revit BIM models of construction drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
Participate in client communication, project meetings, and site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress
Lead or contribute to value engineering sessions and recommend process improvements
Respond to RFIs, review change orders, and assist in the preparation of construction documents
Represent the company in project activities, business development, and marketing efforts
Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering or HVAC design.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Ability to engage effectively with clients.
Fully qualified professional able to perform work with a high degree of latitude, with some ambiguity in work.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Experience performing and directing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Experience preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Experience specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Experience attending and participating in construction meetings, including site walk-throughs.
Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Experience leading or participating in value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Experience serving as an independent reviewer in QAQC processes.
Experience interfacing effectively with clients and project team members.
Experience attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget considerations.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience in overseeing, guiding, mentoring, and providing technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
Experience in preparing and reviewing construction documents, RFIs, change orders, and site visit reports.
Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions.
Experience representing the company in project activities, business development, and marketing activities.
Physical ability to conduct site visits, including walking through construction sites.
Mandatory compliance with internal policies, including completing required training and adherence to the company's Code of Conduct.
