Job Description
The Senior Staff Tech Lead at Aurora is responsible for designing and building scalable cloud-based fleet management tools and APIs to support autonomous vehicle operations, leading technical strategy, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance the efficiency and safety of autonomous fleet services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and implementation of solutions for autonomous vehicle fleet management and partner API integrations.
- Develop scalable cloud services and data pipelines for fleet optimization and commercial operations.
- Build and deploy robust backend services, APIs, and real-time onboard code to support autonomous vehicle fleets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and engineering teams to deliver features.
- Mentor and grow senior engineers, promote engineering excellence through code reviews and design discussions.
- Translate operational data and autonomy metrics into actionable insights via operator-facing tools and APIs.
Requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of industry experience in software development, with a proven track record of designing, building, and operating large-scale backend systems.
- Deep expertise in cloud development, including scalable web services, distributed systems, and modern API design.
- Experience working with Product Management and UI/UX Design teams to define deliverable features that impact end users at scale.
- Proficiency with cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices such as AWS, Kubernetes, Elasticache, CI/CD, and monitoring alerting systems.
- Experience building large-scale gRPC services in Golang.
- Experience in a leadership role, driving technical strategy, influencing architectural decisions, and mentoring senior engineers.
- Experience defining technical roadmaps and driving long-term strategic projects that span multiple engineering teams.
- Phenomenal communication skills, including the ability to write effective technical specifications, provide feedback, translate technical concepts into lay terms, and incorporate feedback.
- Ability to use good judgment to balance speed and quality, and deliver responsible and sustainable products.
- Self-starter mentality to thrive in a growing environment, with the ability to identify needs and proactively address them.
Benefits & Perks
Base salary range of $212,000 - $340,000
Annual bonus

Hybrid work environment with in-office presence at least 3 days per week
