Job Description
The Hardware Systems Applications Engineer at Aurora is responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex issues in electromechanical hardware systems for self-driving trucks, working closely with engineering teams and field operations to ensure system performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues within electromechanical hardware systems.
- Perform technical analysis using applications and tools to investigate hardware issues.
- Build dashboards and tools to monitor hardware performance in the field.
- Analyze log files and event data to reconstruct issues and identify root causes.
- Collaborate with engineering and field teams to understand hardware system status and develop resolution plans.
- Conduct hands-on testing and data acquisition using lab and field equipment.
- Create technical reports summarizing issue investigations and results.
Requirements
- Pursuing BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Fundamental software engineering skills in Python and SQL
- Basic knowledge of automotive networking including CAN and Ethernet, and electrical diagnostic tooling
- Ability to work on-site at Aurora's Pittsburgh facility
- Ability to frequently work hands-on with Aurora’s self-driving truck test fleet
- Ability to analyze log files and plot event data to investigate issues
- Ability to build dashboards and tools to track hardware performance in the field
- Ability to interpret and work with diverse operating systems and applications, including Linux and Vector CANalyzer
- Ability to interpret complex system architecture and wiring diagrams
- Ability to get hands-on with heavy machinery for data acquisition and issue investigation
- Ability to create technical reports summarizing complex issue investigations with quantifiable results
- Ability to handle a diverse set of daily tasks ranging from high-level process development to low-level field issue debugging
- Internship authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the internship
- Acceptance that Aurora does not offer J-1 visa sponsorship for interns

Hourly pay rate of $44.00 for undergraduates, $47.00 for master's students, and $52.00 for doctoral students
Hybrid work environment with in-office presence at least 3 days per week
