Job Description
The survey technician performs field surveying activities such as leveling, traversing, and mapping using Trimble equipment, prepares as-built drawings, and collaborates with team members to support land development and engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform survey activities such as leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, and profile and cross-section surveys
- Set up, adjust, and operate Trimble survey equipment including total station, data collector, and GPS equipment
- Measure distances, angles, and elevations for staking purposes
- Review survey field calculations and make adjustments as needed
- Locate or establish vertical and horizontal control points
- Measure utility points including curb and gutter, water sewer, storm drain, and paving using Trimble equipment
- Prepare accurate field notes and complete as-built drawings
- Maintain work-issued vehicles, laptops, and survey equipment
- Read and interpret engineering plans
- Mentor and assist with training of survey crew members
Requirements
- Ability to commute to and from sites daily in a company-provided truck.
- Experience performing survey activities such as leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, and profile and cross-section surveys.
- Ability to set up, adjust, and operate Trimble survey equipment including total station, data collector, and GPS equipment.
- Proficiency in measuring distances, angles, and elevations for staking purposes.
- Experience reviewing survey field calculations and adjusting them when needed.
- Ability to locate or establish vertical and horizontal control points.
- Experience utilizing Trimble equipment to measure all utility points including curb and gutter, water sewer, storm drain, and paving.
- Ability to prepare accurate field notes and complete as-built drawings.
- Responsibility for maintaining work-issued vehicles, laptops, and survey equipment.
- Ability to follow Atwell’s safety protocols.
- Ability to work independently as a one-man crew or collaboratively with a survey crew member.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
- Availability to attend paid training and development events.
- Previous experience working outside is preferred.
- Effective communication skills to interact with contractors, inspectors, and team leaders.
- Prior experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, with a preference for verifying calculations are correct.
- Ability to travel as required.
