Job Description
The Field Technician is responsible for maintaining and operating utility-scale solar PV power plants, including troubleshooting, repairing, and inspecting electrical systems, while ensuring safety and compliance standards are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor PV plant operation through SCADA systems
- Perform commissioning, testing, inspection, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying solar PV systems
- Supervise contractors to ensure safe, high-quality, and timely maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, procedures, and electrical codes
- Conduct corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on solar PV systems
- Perform onsite installation, repairs, and troubleshooting of electrical components
- Analyze technical failures and prepare technical reports
- Collect and report data to regulatory agencies such as NERC, EPA, and OSHA
- Perform testing and switching of low, medium, and high voltage electrical equipment
- Manage work orders, procurement, and material inventory
- Maintain safety standards and site cleanliness
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience as a PV solar technician or 6 years of experience in a non-solar electrical maintenance role.
- Proficient understanding of Electrical schematics and electrical principles.
- Ability to perform testing, switching, and troubleshooting of low, medium, and high voltage equipment, including transformers, breakers, relays, contactors, motors, trackers, DC array, and inverters.
- Ability to create and follow operating, switching, maintenance, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Proficient understanding of electrical safety, local and national electrical codes, and arc flash standards.
- Experience performing corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance for solar PV systems, including onsite installations, repairs, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to carry out site root analysis and apply root cause analysis techniques on major and recurring faults.
- Ability to investigate technical failures and prepare formal technical reports.
- Experience with testing equipment such as IV Curve Tracers, Power Quality Meters, Insulation Resistance Testers, Multimeters, and other relevant tools.
- Proven computer skills in a Windows environment, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects effectively.
- Self-directed and accountable with critical thinking skills regarding processes and issues.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Valid U.S. Driver license with acceptable MVR history.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment including steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jackets or aprons, and arm guards.
- Physical ability to sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire shift and lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including night, overtime, weekend, and holiday work, and support responsibilities outside scheduled hours.
- Willingness to travel occasionally as required.
