Job Description
The Development Accounting Manager oversees accounting operations for renewable energy projects, providing financial leadership, managing a team, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and supporting project budgeting and reporting in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the month-end, quarterly, and annual close processes, including consolidations and inter-company transactions
- Maintain accounting records and prepare unaudited financial statements in accordance with GAAP and company policies
- Manage construction draw processes, ensuring timely payment of invoices and tracking project cash spend
- Coordinate external audits and ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements
- Handle complex tax and lender equity accounting, structuring, and cash management forecasting
- Collaborate with finance and development teams to develop and maintain accurate project budgets and forecasts
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering continuous improvement and effective collaboration
- Implement process improvements to enhance accounting systems, controls, and efficiency
Requirements
- A 4-year degree from an accredited university in accounting or finance, or equivalent applicable experience.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience within an accounting department and/or public accounting firm.
- Able to work from the office in Scottsdale, AZ Tuesday-Thursday.
- Strong knowledgeable of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting procedures.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks effectively, and work efficiently.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and associated products Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, and Power BI.
- Experience managing a team for a minimum of 1 year (preferred).
- Demonstrated capacity to establish strong, positive, trusting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with complex tax and lender equity requirements related to structuring, accounting, and cash management forecasting (implied by technical accounting responsibilities).
- Experience with construction draw management, including acting as a liaison between internal departments and external parties to ensure timely payment of construction invoices.
- Experience with financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, including managing month-end, quarterly, and annual close processes, consolidation of legal entities, and inter-company transactions.
- Experience managing external annual audits with a mid-size firm.
- Experience with budgeting and forecasting for projects, working interdepartmentally with finance and development teams.
- Ability to continuously improve accounting processes, systems, and controls.
- Experience ensuring compliance with controls, corporate policies, and statutory requirements.
