Job Description

The Impact Manager will design and oversee Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) activities for a regional program focused on business and economic empowerment in Africa, ensuring data quality, stakeholder collaboration, and adaptive learning to support organizational and donor standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework aligned with donor and organizational standards
  • Coordinate MEL activities with program staff and partners, ensuring high-quality data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Develop and oversee MEL plans, data collection tools, and quality assurance protocols
  • Support adaptive management through monitoring and analysis of program data
  • Lead data analysis, visualization, and presentation of regional MEL data for insights and decision-making
  • Ensure data quality, accuracy, completeness, and timeliness, and maintain compliance with data management best practices
  • Oversee knowledge management activities, capturing lessons learned and supporting adaptive learning
  • Coordinate and support research and evaluation activities, including compiling annual impact reports
  • Build capacity of team and partners on MEL tools, methodologies, and best practices

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of designing or delivering programs for African social entrepreneurs.
  • Experience with learning design, pedagogy, curriculum development, content production, and facilitation.
  • Experience setting up large-scale mentoring programs.
  • Experience in co-creating with third-party delivery partners, subject matter experts, and consultants.
  • Detail-oriented project management skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Critical thinking skills and the ability to work, problem-solve, and collaborate thoughtfully with different colleagues and personalities at all levels both externally and internally, and across a variety of functions and geographies.
  • Experience working in East Africa or West Africa and other regions in the continent (preferred).
  • Advanced knowledge of business skills and the investment readiness process gained via experience with an accelerator or venture studio (desirable).
  • Familiarity with human-centered design and lean start-up approaches (desirable).
  • Ability to work from the Acumen office in Nairobi or Lagos with an expectation of working from office 3 days a week; remote from other geographies is not an option.
