Job Description
The Impact Manager will design and implement Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) frameworks for a regional program focused on economic empowerment and youth, ensuring data quality, analysis, and reporting to support program effectiveness and adaptive management across Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) framework aligned with donor and organizational standards
- Coordinate MEL activities with program staff and partners, ensuring high-quality data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Support the development and rollout of data collection tools, surveys, and SMART indicators
- Oversee program monitoring, adaptive management, and ensure data quality and compliance
- Lead analysis and presentation of regional MEL data to generate actionable insights
- Manage knowledge sharing, lessons learned, and oversee adaptive learning activities
- Coordinate and support research and evaluation activities, including compiling annual impact reports
- Build capacity of team and partners on MEL methodologies, tools, and best practices
- Develop and maintain MEL documentation, manuals, and implementation guidelines
- Ensure efficient use of MEL resources and monitor the MEL budget
Requirements
- At least 8 years of work experience in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) or related fields.
- Experience designing and implementing MEL frameworks, including MEL plans, data collection plans, data management plans, quality assurance protocols, and results frameworks.
- Proven ability to coordinate MEL activities with programme staff, implementing partners, and organizations to ensure high standards of data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Strong technical MEL skills including developing indicators, designing data collection tools and surveys, managing data quality processes, and ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Experience implementing an adaptive management approach in MEL activities.
- High level of experience with collection and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data.
- Understanding of data privacy, ethics, and safeguarding in MEL.
- Experience working on large donor-funded projects such as with FCDO, UN, large Foundations, bi-laterals, or similar organizations.
- Experience of MEL activities as part of private sector initiatives with enterprise support orientation.
- Ability to translate data into clear language with actionable insights and recommendations for change.
- Ability to implement MEL frameworks with fidelity while adapting to regional contexts.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to synthesize learning into recommendations for change.
- Experience in capacity building and training teams on MEL methodologies, tools, and templates, including ongoing support to regional teams.
- Experience supporting ad hoc research and evaluation activities as per the MEL plan.
- Experience leading the compilation of annual impact reports for projects.
- Experience working in multi-country programmes.
- Experience working in gender and youth inclusive programmes or with businesses seeking to grow and scale.
- Experience working in a matrix-managed environment, demonstrating effective collaboration with multiple managers and cross-functional teams.
- Familiarity and experience using Power BI, Airtable, Salesforce, or similar data management and analysis tools.
- Location preference for Nairobi (East Africa) or Lagos (West Africa).
