Job Description

The Assistant Area Manager oversees the daily operations of water and wastewater treatment projects, manages staff and client relationships, ensures regulatory compliance and safety, and supports project growth and development in the Southern Florida region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of multiple water and wastewater projects to meet scope, schedule, and budget requirements.
  • Manage the growth and development of assigned managers and staff, ensuring client and regulatory satisfaction.
  • Participate in project proposals, staffing, resource allocation, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Assist in business development efforts through networking and industry involvement.
  • Oversee project personnel activities to ensure responsibilities are met and tasks progress on schedule and within compliance.
  • Serve as primary point of contact with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal support teams, ensuring effective communication.
  • Travel to project sites for management, support, emergency response, and client communication.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance, creating a safe work environment and emergency procedures.
  • Proactively control project costs and provide solutions for financial challenges.
  • Supervise Plant Managers, providing leadership, performance reviews, coaching, and development.

Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment operations, management, or related fields.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrate experience in planning, directing, and coordinating activities of multiple water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop staff, including mentoring and conducting performance reviews for managers and team members.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing project proposals, plans, status reports, and budgets to ensure scope, schedule, and financial targets are met.
  • Ability to serve as the primary point of contact with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal support teams, demonstrating effective written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites for management, support, emergency response, and client communication purposes.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with all company health and safety procedures, policies, and safety audits, and ability to coordinate health and safety efforts for employees.
  • Proven ability to proactively control project costs and provide solutions for troubled financial situations.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the company's industry reputation and presenting a professional image at all times.
  • Experience supervising Plant Managers and influencing managerial actions, including setting performance standards, providing feedback, and coaching.
  • Ability to create a safe workplace environment and develop emergency procedures programs in coordination with Plant Managers and the Health Safety Manager.
  • Comfort with public relations and public speaking engagements related to project updates and industry representation.
