Job Description

The Assistant Area Manager oversees the daily operations of water and wastewater treatment projects, manages project teams, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports business development efforts within the company's water treatment facilities, primarily in Florida.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of multiple water and wastewater projects to ensure scope, schedule, and budget compliance.
  • Manage the growth and development of assigned managers and staff, including mentoring and performance reviews.
  • Serve as primary point of contact with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal support teams, ensuring effective communication.
  • Oversee project proposals, resource allocation, and environmental impact considerations.
  • Ensure health and safety compliance and create a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Proactively control project costs and address financial challenges.
  • Represent the company professionally at the facility and in public relations activities.
  • Supervise Plant Managers and influence their performance through coaching, goal setting, and regular reviews.

Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment project management or operations.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate experience in planning, directing, and coordinating activities of multiple water, wastewater, and reclaimed water projects.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop staff, including mentoring and conducting performance reviews for managers and team members.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing project proposals, plans, schedules, budgets, and status reports to ensure scope, timeframes, and funding are met.
  • Ability to serve as the primary point of contact with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal support teams, demonstrating effective written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed for management, support, emergency response, and client communication purposes.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures and policies, with the ability to coordinate safety programs and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Proven ability to proactively control project costs and provide solutions for troubled financial situations.
  • Ability to represent the company professionally at all levels, including on-site personnel, facility grounds, and company assets, maintaining a positive industry image.
  • Experience supervising Plant Managers and influencing managerial actions, including setting performance standards, providing feedback, and coaching.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities such as work ethic, motivation, and technical and managerial skills through regular performance reviews and development opportunities.
  • Ability to create and implement emergency procedures and coordinate emergency response and recovery efforts.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate technical information through written reports and public speaking engagements.
  • Must be physically capable of traveling to project sites and performing site visits as required.
  • Must comply with all company health and safety procedures and policies, including assisting with safety audits.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate or support the operation of company vehicles and equipment.
