Job Description

The Discipline Lead Group Manager for Highway Design is responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing a team of highway engineers and technicians, overseeing project execution, providing technical guidance, and expanding the firm's highway design capabilities while contributing to business growth and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and technicians in highway design.
  • Assess team capabilities and assemble project teams to meet scope and deliverables.
  • Review work for compliance with standards and QA/QC processes.
  • Identify, develop, and expand highway design capabilities within the team.
  • Contribute to client engagement, stakeholder relations, and business development efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and insight throughout project lifecycles.
  • Lead or assume project management responsibilities for strategic and high-profile projects.
  • Assist in proposal development and participate in qualifications presentations and interviews.

Requirements

  • Reside within a regular commuting distance of the MSP Bloomington, MN location.
  • Possess a strong technical aptitude in highway design.
  • Have experience guiding and developing a team of engineers and technicians, including coaching, mentoring, and outlining development plans for team members.
  • Be capable of assessing team capabilities and capacity against project scope and overall deliverables to assemble project teams, delegate design tasks, review work according to standards and QA/QC processes, and oversee deliverable progress in relation to submittal schedules.
  • Have experience managing registered professionals and a Team Lead Assistant Group Manager who manages unregistered engineers, designers, and technicians.
  • Be responsible for identifying, advocating for, developing, and expanding highway design capabilities for the team.
  • Contribute to advancing highway design services and enhancing the company's reputation through client engagement, stakeholder relations, tracking opportunities, leading proposals, and delivering qualifications presentations.
  • Partner with other group managers to implement market development strategies to generate or enhance awareness of service offerings regionally and nationally.
  • Provide technical guidance and insight to project teams and project managers throughout the full lifecycle of a project.
  • Assume project manager responsibilities for strategic and high-profile projects as necessary and applicable.
  • Assist with proposal development by providing input on team capabilities and capacities in relation to project scope and delivery commitments.
  • Participate in qualifications presentations and project interviews.
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in highway design engineering.
  • Possess a professional engineering license (PE) or equivalent registration.
  • Be able to review work in accordance with applicable standards and QA/QC processes.
  • Be able to provide technical guidance and insight as a technical expert in highway design.
  • Be willing to work in a hybrid work environment, with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote per week.
