Job Description
This internship offers undergraduate civil engineering students the opportunity to work on transportation and rail projects, gaining hands-on experience in site planning, design, calculations, surveys, and construction administration while collaborating with engineers and technicians in a professional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of preliminary and final project designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Perform calculations for project dimensions, elevations, earthwork, utilities, and track quantities
- Support site assessments and surveys for project planning
- Contribute to construction administration by providing feedback on project progress and challenges
- Engage in various project stages from conception through construction to gain practical experience
Requirements
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age as of May 30, 2026, due to responsibilities that may require the operation of a motorized vehicle to conduct business on behalf of TKDA.
- Candidates must be an undergraduate pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a strong interest in transportation, specifically within the railroad and/or mass transit sector.
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Candidates must be able to complete and pass any background, security, and drug tests required by TKDA, clients, and state and/or federal agencies.
- Candidates must be available to work 40 hours per week with occasional overtime throughout the summer of 2026 from mid-May through mid-August.
- Candidates must be able to work primarily from the TKDA office in Bloomington, Minnesota or an assigned project site.
