Job Description
A Staff Data Engineer responsible for designing and evolving a cloud-native data platform that supports the entire trading lifecycle, enabling reliable, scalable, and intelligent data solutions to facilitate decarbonization strategies and environmental commodity trading.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and develop the cloud-native data platform covering data ingestion, transformation, storage, and delivery across the trading lifecycle.
- Define and implement data models, APIs, and governance frameworks to ensure data consistency, scalability, and transparency.
- Lead the development of streaming and batch data pipelines using tools like Airflow, dbt, Kafka, and Spark.
- Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and data scientists to create reusable data services and self-serve data capabilities.
- Establish observability and data quality frameworks to ensure data trust, reliability, and compliance.
- Contribute to long-term data and AI strategies to support automation and advanced analytics.
Requirements
- 10 years experience in data engineering, architecture, or platform engineering with a proven record of building scalable data systems
- Expert proficiency in Python and SQL
- Familiarity in modern cloud ecosystems, with AWS preferred
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform and CDK
- Experience working in containerized environments
- Deep knowledge of modern data stack tools including Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Kafka, Kinesis, and Spark
- Strong understanding of data modeling, governance, lineage, and security principles for enterprise-scale platforms
- Demonstrated leadership in defining architectural standards and patterns that promote operational excellence and scalability
- Exceptional communication and mentorship skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value
- Living in the Netherlands
