Job Description

The Maintenance Engineering Manager at Solid Power oversees maintenance operations, automation strategies, and equipment reliability within the manufacturing environment, leading a team of engineers and technicians to ensure optimal performance and safety of production systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the maintenance engineering team, including task assignment, performance reviews, and team development.
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance plans and work schedules for manufacturing and engineering equipment.
  • Lead automation strategy development, including system upgrades, lifecycle management, and process improvements.
  • Ensure the performance, reliability, and safety of automation and control systems such as PLCs, HMIs, robotics, SCADA, and MES.
  • Oversee system integration across equipment, software, and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineers and leadership on equipment installation and startup.
  • Manage maintenance metrics, equipment uptime, and budget within the CMMS system.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS principles and safety programs related to maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience. Work experience will be substituted for education.
  • Minimum 10 years of leadership experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of maintenance engineering electrical and mechanical experience required.
  • Minimum 7 years of automation experience.
  • Proven experience with Rockwell Automation Allen-Bradley, Siemens and/or Mitsubishi PLCs.
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities across departments and work with outside departments to deconflict timelines.
  • Experience with TPM, Lean Six Sigma Manufacturing practices, or other continuous improvement methodologies preferred.
  • Must be skilled in root cause analysis, predictive maintenance, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ability to develop and execute preventive maintenance plans and work plans for manufacturing and engineering owned equipment and infrastructure.
  • Experience in developing automation strategies to support operational goals including efficiency, reliability, and cost reduction.
  • Experience in building multi-year roadmaps for automation systems, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Ownership of performance, reliability, and safety of automation and control systems such as PLCs, HMIs, robotics, SCADA, MES.
  • Ensuring standardization of automation architectures, programming practices, and documentation.
  • Overseeing system integrations across equipment, software, and manufacturing processes.
  • Managing a team of engineers and technicians including handling yearly reviews, task assignment, and expense approvals.
  • Assessing internal team expertise, identifying gaps, and developing training programs.
  • Managing relationships and communication with contractors, including addressing contract, budget, and schedule issues.
  • Working closely with manufacturing engineers and cell production leadership on installation and start-up of new equipment.
  • Supporting the development of metrics for site maintenance deliverables and equipment uptime within the CMMS Fiix system.
  • Managing Maintenance Engineering budget including repair and maintenance, vendor support, and overall OPEX CAPEX.
  • Supporting technology transfer documentation as required.
  • Mentoring maintenance engineering employees to help them achieve individual and company goals.
  • Physical ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
  • Ability to work within a dry, clean-room environment.
  • Ability to work prolonged periods sitting at a desk.
  • Compliance with export control requirements, including access to technology, software, and other information subject to governmental restrictions.

Salary range of $155,000 - $175,000
