Job Description
The Solar Maintenance Technician II is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on solar PV facilities, including electrical and mechanical system repairs, troubleshooting, and site inspections, primarily in Knoxville, TN. The role involves working independently and as part of a team to ensure optimal solar system performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on solar PV systems, UPS, SCADA, substation, and MV HV OHE systems
- Perform corrective maintenance and respond to emergency dispatches for critical systems
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and mechanical components such as contactors, breakers, motors, PV modules, PLCs, and transformers
- Conduct electrical testing using specialized equipment like IV Curve Tracers and Power Quality Meters
- Assist with site investigations, root cause analysis, and serial defect reporting
- Provide site access to third-party contractors and support land management and vegetation tasks
- Log all maintenance work in the CMMS platform
- Attend training sessions to maintain and improve technical skills
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 3 years of experience in the electrical trade, electrical maintenance, multicraft maintenance, or the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program
- Experience performing maintenance tasks on DC, AC, and MV systems, communications equipment, and mechanical systems
- Intermediate skills with computers and electronic equipment required
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat required
- Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA70E, and OSHA standards
- Valid Driver's License
- OSHA 30 certification must be obtained within 4 weeks of employment
- CPR BLS certification must be obtained within 4 weeks of employment
- Ability to perform localized travel of up to 2 hours each way (note that the first and last hour of daily driving travel is not paid and is considered normal commute time)
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to work outside in most weather conditions
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
