Job Description

The role involves performing high-quality welding and fabrication in a chemical manufacturing environment, ensuring the integrity and safety of equipment handling hazardous materials, while adhering to industry standards and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality welding on piping systems, tanks, pressure vessels, and structural supports following relevant codes and standards.
  • Interpret technical drawings, weld symbols, and produce weld maps for fabrication and repair.
  • Collaborate with inspection teams during NDT to ensure weld quality and compliance.
  • Support fabrication, maintenance, and repair operations in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Maintain proper documentation of welding activities, including heat numbers and weld logs.
  • Assist with equipment installations and modifications to support production and compliance.

Requirements

  • Interpret and follow WPS, PQRs per ASME Section IX, AWS D 1.1 Structural Steel.
  • Perform high-quality welds GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW on piping systems, tanks, pressure vessels, and structural supports used in chemical processing.
  • Fabricate and repair components according to API 510, API 570, API 653, and ASME Section IX codes and standards.
  • Interpret and follow technical drawings, P IDs, isometric diagrams, understand weld symbols, and produce weld maps to fabrication drawings.
  • Work in accordance with plant safety protocols, especially in hazardous areas, following lockout tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and hot work permit procedures.
  • Collaborate with inspection teams during NDT (e.g., RT, PT, UT) and ensure welds meet all applicable QA/QC requirements.
  • Participate in shutdown turnaround activities, emergency repairs, and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Maintain proper documentation of welding work, including heat numbers, weld logs, and traceability records.
  • Assist with equipment installations and modifications as needed to support production and compliance initiatives.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED; post-secondary training in welding or metal fabrication preferred.
  • Have a minimum of 3 to 5 years of welding experience in a chemical, petrochemical, or similar regulated industrial environment.
  • Hold weld performance qualification per ASME Section IX.
  • Demonstrate a strong ability to work safely around chemical systems and in classified hazardous locations.
  • Be skilled in welding corrosion-resistant alloys such as stainless steel, Inconel, and Hastelloy.
  • Have experience with orbital welding, purging techniques, and welding in clean service applications (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Be able to read and interpret technical documents, safety data sheets (SDS), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Pass a respirator fit test and be able to wear respiratory protection daily.
  • Wear personal protective equipment including lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and steel toe safety shoes.
  • Move items weighing up to 50 lbs with assistance of lift equipment and carts.
  • Be able to move long distances, work in tight spaces, at heights, and in confined areas.
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, or printer in a fixed location.
  • Work in a high-hazard, large-scale manufacturing facility operating 24/7, with frequent exposure to high temperatures, pressurized equipment, corrosive chemicals, and confined spaces.
  • Adhere strictly to safety and environmental regulations.
