Job Description
A technical investigator role focused on analyzing competitor battery technologies, translating complex data into strategic insights, and supporting sales and product teams to drive business growth in the battery and energy storage sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with sales and product teams to identify customer concerns and competitor claims, translating them into fact-checking actions and product planning inputs.
- Convert benchmarking data into simple, tactical tools for the sales team to discuss competitor technology.
- Define technical questions for the engineering team and manage their work to obtain answers.
- Build and maintain first-principles models to analyze competitor strategies, costs, and performance trade-offs.
- Manage the characterization and testing of competitor products, coordinating internal scientists and external contractors.
- Monitor for competitor infringement and gather technical evidence for legal action.
- Lead quarterly strategy reviews by synthesizing technical data into executive summaries and strategic insights.
- Track industry trends and macro shifts to align tactical decisions with market developments.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree in engineering or science, such as Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related Physical Science.
- At least 6 years of experience in technical product management, technical product marketing, or corporate strategy within the battery, EV, drone, or consumer electronics sectors.
- Proven ability to act as a project manager for technical work, including the ability to keep scientists on task and within scope.
- Advanced skill in Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) and excel-based modeling to determine competitor manufacturing costs and product performance.
- High level of resourcefulness in sourcing information, samples, and external partners for technical benchmarking.
- Excellent communication skills with a track record of simplifying complex technical data into clear commercial actions for executive leadership.
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment such as a laptop, copier, and printer in a fixed location.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% for visiting external testing partners, attending industry events and conferences, or supporting account managers in key customer meetings.
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $136,000 to $172,000
Work environment: Onsite in Alameda with some travel up to 25%
Work schedule: Regular collaboration with teams in China, attending industry events and customer meetings
