Job Description
The Supervisor of Renewable Project Accounting is responsible for managing accurate financial accounting and reporting for SB Energy's utility-scale renewable solar and storage projects, overseeing a team, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and internal controls, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support the company's energy infrastructure development.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and execute timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes for renewable energy projects.
- Record and review financial transactions, including journal entries and account reconciliations, in accordance with US GAAP.
- Oversee and approve work of junior and senior accountants, ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policies.
- Coordinate with project managers and internal teams to ensure accurate reflection of business transactions in financial statements.
- Prepare consolidated financial reports and maintain lease accounting data (ASC842).
- Collaborate with external auditors during annual audits and respond to ad hoc financial inquiries.
- Research and document technical accounting issues, ensuring adherence to US GAAP standards.
- Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of accounting operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 5 years in general accounting.
- Audit experience is required.
- Supervisory experience of 1-3 years.
- Experience working in project accounting within engineering and construction, or Energy industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with financial reporting for renewable power plants, including Photo Voltaic, Battery Energy Storage System, Data Center, and the nuances of renewable energy tax incentives.
- ERP system experience is required, with a preference for NetSuite, and proficiency with Excel such as pivot tables, formulas, and proficiency with other Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to execute the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process within clearly-defined time frames.
- Experience accounting for intercompany billings between the operating parent entities and underlying projects.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with project managers to ensure the reflection of business transactions in the ledgers in an efficient and accurate manner, timely collections, and development of business knowledge.
- Experience assisting in the preparation of consolidated accounting and financial reporting requests.
- Ability to ensure monthly data maintenance of lease accounting ASC842.
- Experience ensuring all reports and supporting documentation as required by internal controls are properly approved and retained.
- Ability to prepare periodic comparative variance analysis as required.
- Experience communicating with internal Structured Finance, Projects, and Operations and Maintenance teams to ensure understanding of the business and accuracy of all financial statements.
- Ability to perform analytical functions necessary to achieve an accurate and timely general ledger month-end close.
- Experience researching and documenting technical accounting issues in accordance with US GAAP.
- Ability to work closely with external auditors on the annual audit of affiliated legal entities based on GAAP.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to communicate with various levels of management and clients.
- Must be highly detail-oriented and results-focused, with strong organizing, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
- Strong work ethic, team player, and high degree of professionalism with flexible work assignments.
- Strong sense of ethics and ability to deal sensitively with confidential material.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 5 times per year, with locations including San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, CA, Washington D.C., Phoenix, AZ, Dallas, and Houston, TX, or work remotely.
