Job Description
The Sr. SCADA and Digital Infrastructure Engineer at SB Energy is responsible for leading control systems and SCADA projects across renewable energy and data center infrastructure, providing technical expertise in design, commissioning, and optimization, while supporting innovative AI-based control solutions and ensuring system integration and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide SCADA and control subject matter expertise during design, contracting, construction, commissioning, and operations of renewable energy projects.
- Manage requirements and coordinate with external parties such as ISO, QSE, NERC, utilities, and O&M teams to ensure project compliance and integration.
- Lead and oversee contractors implementing SCADA and control systems for data centers, PV, HV, and BESS projects to meet milestones and ensure system integration.
- Support controls testing, commissioning activities, and performance testing to ensure system reliability and compliance.
- Develop, implement, and validate AI-based control algorithms for hardware at innovation centers and commercial plants.
- Analyze control system performance, report results, and recommend improvements.
- Evaluate new technologies for potential integration and business value through techno-economic analyses and field assessments.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in SCADA and control systems, preferably in the renewable energy sector including solar, battery storage, and data center projects.
- B.S. Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited University or other technical degree; a Master's or Doctorate degree is a plus and counts towards professional experience.
- Proficiency in SCADA and control system software and hardware such as Ignition, Canary Labs, SEL Hardware/Software, GE RX3i, CodeSYS, Data Loggers, and Meteorological Equipment.
- Knowledge of networking and cybersecurity practices related to industrial control systems.
- Experience with Electric Power Management System (EPMS) and Building Management Systems (BMS) in data centers is required.
- Demonstrated strong engineering, design, and communication skills, with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment and solve problems innovatively.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to self-start and drive efforts to completion.
- Ability to analyze modeling results and effectively present findings.
- Ability to manage requirements and coordinate with external parties such as ISO, QSE, NERC, utilities, and O&M teams during project phases.
- Experience leading SCADA-related projects, including system feature upgrades and expansions, ensuring projects meet milestones and are completed on time and within budget.
- Experience in controls testing and commissioning activities such as point-to-point testing, control AVR, PFR, curtailment, NERC, and performance tests.
- Experience in controls hardware integration, including inverters, storage, and compute loads at pilot and commercial sites.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and validating AI-based algorithms for hardware control, analyzing performance, and recommending improvements.
- Ability to evaluate new technologies for potential company value through techno-economic analyses, modeling, simulations, field visits, and literature reviews.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 10% as required.
- Location flexibility with preferred locations in Denver, CO, Redwood City, CA, San Diego, CA, or remote work options.
