Job Description
A Lab Technician II supporting engineering operations by executing hardware and software testing, assembling test setups, maintaining lab equipment, and assisting with vehicle drive tests to help develop and improve IoT products and solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Support lab operations by executing engineering requests for hardware and software.
- Conduct in-cab vehicle drive testing and inspect products.
- Maintain lab organization, cleanliness, and equipment calibration.
- Assemble test setups, connect devices, and notify engineers of issues.
- Rework electronic assemblies, PCBs, and prototype cables.
- Utilize lab equipment to perform testing, including multimeters and thermal chambers.
- Ensure lab safety and efficiency, and manage inventory of devices.
- Update project statuses, blockers, and priorities on Jira and communicate with the lab team.
- Set up equipment and perform basic computer operations, including Linux and scripting tasks.
Requirements
- Support lab operations by executing various engineering requests tickets across both hardware and software applications.
- Conduct in-cab vehicle drive testing, which requires a valid driver license.
- Perform lab maintenance and upkeep including organization, cleanliness, lab equipment assembly (racks, benches), track equipment calibration, and creating documentation.
- Connect devices, inspect products, and notify engineers and lab manager of test bed issues.
- Collect components and assemble test setups according to engineering instructions.
- Rework electronic assemblies, PCBs, and SMCs, including soldering, labeling, and crimping prototype cables and components.
- Utilize various lab equipment such as multimeters, power supplies, thermal chambers, and vibe tables to execute testing.
- Help take ownership of lab safety and efficiency.
- Label, organize, and track inventory of devices using tools like Google Sheets.
- Diligently update project statuses, blockers, and priorities to the lab manager and document on Jira test tickets.
- Set up equipment and perform basic computer operations, with preferred experience working with Linux machines, bash scripting, and Python.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Comfortable working in a lab environment with various tools, vehicles, thermal chambers, and IoT devices.
- Familiar with basic hardware tools such as soldering irons, wiring, relays, terminal blocks, power supplies, multimeters, and DIN rail.
- Rework abilities including PCB rework, troubleshooting, and general soldering.
- Loves tinkering and developing solutions.
- Remains flexible and adaptive to priority shifts.
- Experience with Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Slides.
- Interest in lab operations and vehicles.
- Experience in a similar role.
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence.
- Familiarity with vehicle diagnostic protocols.
- IT background.
- Familiarity with IoT products and testing technologies.
- Programming experience in Python.
