Job Description

This role involves leading the strategy and development of Samsara's Vehicle Platform, focusing on vehicle data collection, diagnostics, and integration to support fleet management solutions. The position requires technical leadership, cross-team collaboration, and a focus on building scalable, high-quality telematics services for global customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and execute strategy for vehicle data collection, utilization, and monetization across global fleets.
  • Drive the development and maintenance of the Telematics Platform, ensuring high-quality services and APIs.
  • Collaborate with OEM teams to support vehicle system data ingestion through various APIs.
  • Work with Data Science to monitor diagnostics coverage, identify gaps, and prioritize investments.
  • Develop insights for internal and customer use, including predictive maintenance and ML-driven features.
  • Partner with engineering teams to ensure high-quality releases, connectivity, and support for product features.
  • Lead R&D planning, including intake processes and prioritization of vehicle platform needs.
  • Communicate and coordinate with product leadership to align roadmaps and initiatives.
  • Engage with customer-facing teams to support strategic accounts, resolve escalations, and maintain relationships.
  • Hire, develop, and lead a team of product managers, fostering an inclusive and high-performing culture.

Requirements

  • Experience in a platform product role within a large software development organization.
  • Strong technical understanding, with an ability to grasp technical concepts and establish credibility with engineers.
  • A proven track-record of delivering outstanding results for customers and the business, managing significant complexity and bold timelines.
  • Bias-to-action and willingness to get hands dirty to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated experience setting strategy for complex technical areas, and using analytics data to measure progress toward goals and make investment choices.
  • Experience hiring, developing, and leading people as a direct manager.
  • Excellent communication skills, including comfort presenting to customers and internal audiences, including senior executives.
  • Minimum of 10 years of job experience in relevant product, technical, and/or business roles.
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience such as software engineering experience.
  • Experience working in the telematics and/or automotive space.
  • Experience working on software platforms supporting 1 billion dollars in revenue.
  • Technical familiarity with automotive communication protocols and vehicle onboard diagnostics systems.
  • Experience managing firmware-based features.
