Job Description
The Head of Quantum Innovation will lead the development of a state-of-the-art quantum research and startup environment, orchestrating multidisciplinary teams to build breakthrough quantum technologies and companies within a new quantum campus in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify key problems to solve in quantum innovation and assemble multidisciplinary teams to address them
- Lead the creation and design of a state-of-the-art quantum lab to serve as a launchpad for quantum ventures
- Define equipment specifications and operational environment for the quantum lab
- Drive venture-building initiatives through idea-led and talent-led models
- Set strategic direction for project development, including defining talent profiles and securing top hires
- Align technical, commercial, and market goals to ensure cohesive progress toward breakthroughs
Requirements
- Experience in leading the creation and development of a state-of-the-art quantum laboratory, including defining equipment specifications and designing operational environments for teams to transform ideas into market-ready technologies.
- Ability to identify technical opportunities that align with market demand and assemble appropriate teams to pursue these opportunities, demonstrating experience in venture-building models that are idea-led and talent-led.
- Proven experience in supporting world-class founders and building new startups around their strengths and vision.
- Experience in setting strategic direction for technical, commercial, and market goals and securing top talent and hires to achieve these goals.
- Strong understanding of physics, engineering, fabrication, software, and market strategy, with the ability to ensure these disciplines advance in sync and move as one team toward breakthroughs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and orchestrate collaboration across different technical and commercial domains.
- Experience in designing and shaping operational environments within research or innovation labs, including defining equipment specifications and team operational structures.
- Ability to lead and drive venture-building initiatives within a time-constrained (12-month) project scope, with a focus on quantum technology and innovation.
