The Coastal Engineer at RES leads and manages innovative coastal resilience projects, providing technical expertise, guiding design and permitting processes, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with clients and regulators to restore ecosystems and enhance shoreline stability.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and assist in the design and implementation of coastal resilience projects, including shoreline assessments, coastal enhancements, and permit plans.
Manage project delivery from concept through construction, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and client requirements.
Provide technical expertise and guidance on coastal engineering, including regulatory approvals, permitting, and innovative nature-based solutions.
Mentor junior staff and lead project teams to ensure quality and efficiency across multiple projects.
Coordinate with clients, regulators, marine scientists, and engineers to develop and communicate project solutions.
Oversee construction oversight and verify that fieldwork aligns with design plans and permits.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Coastal, Civil, or Marine Engineering field
Licensed Professional Engineer in Florida, or the ability to become licensed within six months through reciprocity if licensed in another state
10 years of progressive engineering experience designing nature-based coastal resilience and waterfront projects such as artificial reefs, living seawalls, breakwaters, mangrove shorelines
8 years of experience with advanced degree in engineering
Construction management experience
Experience leading coastal proposal pursuits
Advanced proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, coastal modeling software e.g. MIKE21 or similar platforms
Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex design projects from concept through construction as design lead
Experience leading coastal permitting and coordination with federal, state, and county agencies that include Coastal Construction Control Line (CCCL) permitting
Valid driver’s license in the US for over one year and ability to travel to field sites as needed
