Job Description

An Environmental Engineering Intern at RES supports ecological restoration projects through field surveys, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and design tasks, gaining hands-on experience in sustainable environmental practices and contributing to ecosystem enhancement and resource protection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys to collect data on stream flow, habitat, erosion potential, and streambed characteristics using GPS, laser levels, and total stations
  • Assist in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using software like HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS to predict runoff, analyze floodplain connections, and develop stream designs
  • Support the creation of ecological restoration designs and technical reports, including designing channels, in-stream features, grading plans, and erosion control measures
  • Utilize GIS tools to analyze and map watershed and site characteristics, supporting ecological assessments and project planning

Requirements

  • Currently a rising junior pursuing a degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, biological systems engineering, agricultural engineering, water resources engineering, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software such as HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS.
  • Familiarity with GIS and mapping tools.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Keen interest in ecological restoration and sustainable development.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both office and field settings.
