Job Description
A hands-on, outdoor-focused Restoration Technician role involving ecological restoration projects such as stream and landscape restoration, invasive species management, and erosion control, requiring operation of specialized equipment and travel within the region to make a positive environmental impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Plant, seed, and install erosion control measures in the field
- Operate light equipment such as chainsaws, brush cutters, augers, UTVs, skid steers, and trucks
- Apply herbicide to control invasive species
- Perform invasive plant removal management
- Assist with restoration planting and stormwater projects
- Carry and maintain equipment weighing up to 50 lbs in outdoor conditions
Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent
- Ability to operate and adapt within a team
- Keen interest in natural resources and outdoors
- At least 1 or more years of experience working in field operations or civil construction or on natural resource or water resource infrastructure projects
- Prior experience performing native seed and plant installation, including erosion control measures
- Knowledge of native plant identification
- Experience spraying herbicide and the ability to study for and pass a test to become a licensed Pesticide Applicator
- Ability to operate and maintain small engines and equipment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a FedMed Certificate
- Ability to drive trucks and trailers
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including rain or shine
- Willingness to walk long distances and carry equipment up to 50 lbs, such as chainsaws, gas-powered brush cutters, augers, or sprayers
- Availability to work over 50 hours per week, including opportunities for weekend work during peak periods
- Ability to travel up to 75% within the region, including overnight stays of 1 to 4 nights for some projects
- Willingness to operate specialized equipment such as UTVs, skid steers, and trucks with trailers
