The Senior Modeling and Architecture Engineer will lead the design, development, and integration of energy storage systems, focusing on modeling, system optimization, and operational algorithms for second-life battery products within Redwood Materials' innovative energy storage solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and integration of energy storage modeling and architecture for second-life battery products.
Develop and maintain multiphysics and technoeconomic models to inform system design and project sizing.
Operationalize modeling insights into algorithms that optimize battery pack usage, including setting operational parameters and replacement strategies.
Oversee the modeling roadmap, select appropriate tools, and ensure model reliability for decision-making.
Conduct architectural studies to evaluate cost and performance tradeoffs.
Create operational windows and replacement algorithms for battery packs based on model outputs.
Perform component-level sensitivity analyses to inform cost and performance optimization.
Validate models through testing and analyze results to quantify uncertainty.
Communicate modeling findings to support architecture and performance improvements.
Develop reporting frameworks to track progress from concept to full production of components.
Requirements
BS or MS in Mechanical Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
8 years of model development or system engineering experience
Excellent first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy storage and transformation, and basic thermal mechanics
Experience with hybrid or electric powertrain model development, PV model development, and data analysis in Python or MATLAB Simulink
Experience with models which have multiple contributors collaborating together
Familiarity with basic controls techniques, such as filters and PID loops
Experience with system optimization tools
Strong communication and collaboration skills

Salary range: $127,500 - $248,500 USD
