Job Description

The Mechanical Engineering Lead at Redwood Materials is responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and systems for large-scale renewable energy products, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and eventually leading and building a mechanical engineering team to support the company's growth and innovation efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and systems for large-scale renewable energy products, including thermal management, enclosures, and structural integration.
  • Perform mechanical analysis such as CFD and FEA to validate designs and ensure performance under real-world conditions.
  • Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to ensure seamless mechanical integration into overall system architecture.
  • Select materials and components in coordination with suppliers to ensure cost-effective, high-quality solutions.
  • Manage engineering projects to meet goals and timelines, including hands-on design, prototyping, and testing.
  • Lead and build a mechanical engineering team as the project scales, including recruiting, mentoring, and managing team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus in batteries, renewable energy systems, or similar large-scale projects.
  • Proven track record as a senior mechanical engineer, with hands-on design, prototyping, and testing experience in building products at scale.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, e.g., SolidWorks, and analysis tools such as CFD, FEA, etc.
  • Experience in the development of tools, infrastructure, and design practices for a growing team.
  • Ability to perform mechanical analysis including CFD, FEA, thermal, etc., to validate designs and ensure performance under real-world conditions.
  • Ability to lead and execute the mechanical design and development of large-scale renewable energy solutions from concept to deployment, including thermal management, structural design, packaging integration of power electronics, and integration with grid infrastructure.
  • Experience selecting materials and components, working closely with suppliers and vendors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality solutions.
  • Experience managing engineering projects in a hands-on capacity to deliver on project goals and timelines.
  • Ability to act as the primary mechanical engineering expert, driving innovation and solving technical challenges at a large scale.
  • Experience in recruiting, mentoring, and managing a high-performance mechanical engineering team as the project scales.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage work in a startup environment, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with all levels of the organization and present to internal and external executives.

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $183,500 - $296,500 USD
Full-time position
Compensation will be commensurate with experience
