Job Description

A Hardware Test Engineer at Redwood Materials is responsible for designing and executing validation tests for new electromechanical energy storage products, collaborating across mechanical, electrical, and software domains to ensure product robustness and reliability throughout the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, set up, and execute validation tests for a new electromechanical product
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate FMEAs and test plans
  • Specify and design physical test infrastructure such as fixtures, sensors, actuators, chambers, and power supplies
  • Develop and maintain test automation tools using Python
  • Conduct failure analysis through teardown and root cause investigations
  • Analyze complex test data, report findings, and drive system enhancements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
  • 5 years of technical experience in test engineering or a related role
  • Experience working with high-voltage systems of 400-2000VDC and 480-800VAC
  • Deep technical expertise in at least one aspect of test engineering, with comfort working across disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming, with Python preferred
  • Experience developing scalable tools, infrastructure, and design practices for test engineering teams
  • Ability to design, set up, and execute validation tests for a new electromechanical product
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, reliability, and abuse engineers to generate FMEAs and test plans
  • Ability to specify and design physical test infrastructure such as fixtures, sensors, actuators, chambers, and power supplies
  • Experience developing and maintaining test automation tools using Python
  • Experience conducting failure analysis through teardown and root cause investigations
  • Ability to analyze complex test data, report findings, and drive system enhancements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels, including executives
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully in environments that may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE
  • Essential physical capabilities such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing
  • Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes
  • Occasional work on weekends, nights, or being on-call as a regular part of the job
  • Occasional travel as needed

Benefits & Perks

Compensation/salary range: $112,000 - $224,000 USD
Work schedule: Full-time, with occasional weekends, nights, or on-call work
Work environment perks: Ability to work in challenging conditions with PPE, exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes
Additional benefits: Occasional travel requirements
