Job Description

The Interconnection Engineer at Reactivate is responsible for managing the integration of distributed energy resources such as community solar, utility-scale solar, and energy storage into utility distribution systems, ensuring regulatory compliance, technical optimization, and stakeholder collaboration to support renewable energy projects.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and coordinate the interconnection process for community solar, small utility-scale solar, and energy storage projects.
Develop and manage project timelines, ensuring milestones and deadlines are met.
Ensure compliance with regional and national regulations related to interconnection processes.
Assess and optimize distribution system designs for interconnection projects.
Review technical documentation such as one-line diagrams, site plans, and impact studies for compliance and accuracy.
Collaborate with utility partners, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to facilitate project approvals and resolve issues.
Identify potential risks in interconnection projects and develop mitigation strategies.
Manage interconnection application packages and monitor the study process with service providers.
Provide technical insights during project phases, including feasibility, impact, and agreement stages.
Stay informed on industry standards, emerging technologies, and best practices to improve interconnection processes.

Requirements

Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or relevant area of study is required.
2-3 years of relevant engineering experience including renewable energy design, distribution systems, and interconnection tariff structures.
Demonstrated ability to read and interpret equipment specifications, single line diagrams layouts, regulatory documents, distribution studies, engineering reports, and interconnection agreements.
Proven experience in managing distribution interconnection projects, preferably in the renewable energy sector.
Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, grid integration, and relevant industry standards.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance processes for Distributed Energy Resources (DER) projects.
Knowledge of utility infrastructure including medium voltage and low voltage distribution equipment.
Demonstrated ability to understand solar and storage project electrical components, including batteries, inverters, and transformers.
Demonstrated ability to understand utility infrastructure and interconnection processes.
Demonstrated ability to understand technical aspects of utility interconnection materials.
Exceptional project management skills, including collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
Problem-solving mindset and the ability to think strategically to overcome technical and regulatory challenges.
Demonstrated commitment to sustainability and renewable energy initiatives.
