Job Description
The Senior Director of System Engineering in Japan is a leadership role responsible for overseeing technical resources, driving sales growth, and building strong client relationships within the region, while leading and developing a high-performing engineering team to support the company's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate technical resources within Japan to support sales and growth strategies.
- Engage with clients and senior stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives.
- Manage and develop a high-performing team of System Engineers and Managers.
- Collaborate with sales and pre-sales teams to develop and track plans for sustainable revenue growth.
- Analyze and report on technical pipeline, forecasts, and team performance metrics.
- Build and maintain relationships with regional partners and internal cross-functional teams.
- Ensure technical team skills and knowledge are aligned with sales goals and customer needs.
- Promote and uphold the company's culture, values, and recognition programs.
Requirements
- Proven pedigree of working on and leading large IT projects, including consulting, pre- and post-sales transformational IT services, or IT design and build projects in IT departments.
- Substantial experience of successfully doing a senior leadership role that aligns with the sales team in Japan, with a focus on moving upmarket across all segments of the business.
- Experience selling into large organizations and understanding what it takes to be successful in this environment.
- Ability to lead from the front on key client engagements and establish oneself as a thought leader and trusted advisor with key senior client stakeholders.
- Experience hiring, leading, and developing a team of System Engineers, Managers, and Systems Engineers, ensuring technical success throughout the sales process.
- Ability to develop, improve, and maintain resources, ensuring their efficient deployment to meet and exceed sales goals and support customer and partner needs.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, and conducting regular 1-1s with team members to provide constructive feedback and skills development.
- Ensuring every employee has an Individual Development Plan.
- Ability to align technical messaging and approach across overlay functions including Channel, Data Architects, PSE, FSA, CTO, and PS organizations.
- Experience building relationships and alignment with technical counterparts within regional Alliance and Channel partners.
- Deep understanding of key sales metrics related to sales and how the system engineering team can contribute to improving those metrics.
- Deep understanding of key metrics for the system engineering team and leveraging those metrics to measure team progress and achievement.
- Ensuring system engineers have the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively execute processes, including regular performance evaluation and process optimization.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships within and outside the company, including technical equivalents within regional partners.
- Operational mastery of key business metrics relevant to the sales and system engineering teams.
- Strong communication skills to effectively cascade goals and communicate technical issues or enhancement requests from customers back to technical support, product management, and R&D.
- Active participation as an executive sponsor for larger opportunities and representing the company at regional industry events, conferences, forums, and seminars.
- High ethical standards and personal integrity, treating people with respect at all times.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changes and make necessary operational adjustments.
- Intellectual curiosity to understand customer business challenges, industry trends, and competition.
- Self-development in technical and leadership skills.
- Strong soft skills, including effective communication and cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to understand and communicate technical issues and customer requirements effectively.
