The Legal Counsel IP Product Strategy is responsible for guiding patent strategy, product vision, and legal compliance for data storage and infrastructure products, working closely with engineering and product teams to protect intellectual property and align business and technical goals.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as a strategic partner to engineering and product teams on patent strategy and product development lifecycle
Define and own product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap based on company priorities and market feedback
Translate customer needs and field feedback into clear product direction
Negotiate IP-heavy commercial agreements and advise on open-source compliance
Communicate product priorities and roadmaps to executive leadership and stakeholders
Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape to inform strategy
Conduct IP review of customer contracts and leverage market insights for prioritization and success measurement
Requirements
JD from an ABA-accredited law school and admitted to a U.S. state bar organization for the jurisdiction where the candidate is working and in good standing
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent work experience (considered a plus)
Registration before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (considered a plus)
Outstanding analytical and legal skills, including thorough knowledge of technical marketing, product certification and compliance, software including open-source, and general intellectual property law
Strong technical competency including the ability to understand software and hardware concepts and discuss fluently with product marketing, engineers, and developers
Excellent project management and organization skills and ability to work to a deadline
Ability to effectively present complex information to senior executives including Engineering, Marketing, Management, and Field GTM Sales teams
Ability to translate company priorities, customer needs, and field feedback into clear product direction
Experience with product teams and delivering complex products at scale
Experience in monitoring competitive overviews, industry trends, and emerging technologies to inform strategy
Experience in engaging in IP review of customer contracts
Ability to use data and analytics to guide prioritization and measure success
