Job Description

A Platform Software Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and testing system software for data storage hardware platforms, including hardware bring-up, debugging, security features, and hardware-software integration in a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test system software for new hardware platforms
  • Plan and influence the lifecycle of hardware platforms from bring-up to deployment and upgrades
  • Debug complex hardware and firmware issues across various components using lab tools
  • Design and implement remote server management capabilities and enhance RAS features
  • Develop and implement low-level security features such as Secure Boot, Root of Trust, and TPM 2.0
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to define specifications and ensure hardware-software integration
  • Work closely with hardware engineers, system architects, and OS developers throughout the development process

Requirements

  • Experience as a Platform Software Engineer working on designing, developing, and testing system software functionality for hardware platforms.
  • Ability to participate in the full lifecycle of new hardware platforms, including early bring-up, manufacturing release, deployment, upgrades, and fleet-level reliability.
  • Experience working closely with hardware engineers, system architects, and operating system developers to define specifications, review designs, and ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
  • Proficiency in debugging complex hardware firmware issues across x86, PCIe, NVMe, and networking using lab tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, and kernel driver traces.
  • Experience working on problems ranging from design and bring-up to deployment, upgrades, and reliability of hardware platforms.
  • Design, implement, and improve remote server management capabilities using standards like Redfish and enhance Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) features.
  • Develop and implement low-level security features such as Secure Boot, hardware Root of Trust (RoT), and TPM 2.0.
  • Design, write, and maintain software components in C, C++, Python, Golang, and RUST.
  • Experience collaborating with vendors on requirements specification and following through to system delivery.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware platforms, including design requirements feedback, system-level debugging, customer delivery, and support.
  • Experience with most or all of CPU architectures, BMC firmware, OpenBMC or equivalent, and management protocols such as Redfish and IPMI.
  • Experience with BIOS/UEFI development or debugging is preferred.
  • Solid Linux skills, including working with kernel logs, drivers, bootloaders, and root cause analysis across hardware, firmware, and OS boundaries.
  • Preferred educational background of B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in C, C++ (object-oriented design, C11 and onwards), and strong Python skills for build, test automation, and lab tooling.
  • Experience with Golang and RUST is desirable.
  • Strong interest in CPU architecture and data center hardware.
  • Experience with hardware platforms, including design feedback, bring-up, system-level debugging, customer delivery, and support.
  • Experience with management protocols such as Redfish and IPMI, and with BMC firmware, OpenBMC or equivalent.
  • Experience with BIOS/UEFI development or debugging is preferred.
  • Good verbal communication and collaboration skills.
