Job Description
The role involves leading the enterprise ServiceNow platform engineering team, overseeing platform reliability, security, governance, and operations, while collaborating with stakeholders to develop strategies, standards, and roadmaps for a complex, global ServiceNow environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the ServiceNow Center of Excellence's Platform Engineering Support pillar, ensuring platform standards, governance, and risk management.
- Build and develop a high-performing platform engineering team, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Establish and enforce platform policies, technical guardrails, and design standards to ensure security, compliance, and performance.
- Manage vendor relationships and augment capacity through partnerships as needed.
- Partner with architects and product teams to develop instance and environment strategies, including data management and domain separation.
- Implement and oversee CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, release, and deployment processes.
- Govern and optimize platform performance, availability, and resilience through SRE practices, incident management, and capacity planning.
- Ensure platform security, encryption, access controls, and audit readiness in compliance with security standards.
- Standardize integration patterns, API contracts, and monitor for drift to ensure reliable system integrations.
- Engage with senior stakeholders to communicate platform strategy, risks, and roadmaps, translating technical topics for non-technical audiences.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 10 years of experience working with enterprise platforms, including at least 5 years leading ServiceNow at scale in complex, global environments.
- Several years of experience as a lead architect or platform owner, preferably with direct people management.
- Proven leadership of platform engineering and operations, including multi-instance, multi-environment strategy, CI/CD, automated testing (ATF), release and deployment, upgrades, observability, SLOs, incident and problem management.
- Deep knowledge of key ServiceNow products and platform capabilities such as ITSM, ITOM, HRSD, CSM, FSM, App Engine Workspaces, IntegrationHub, MID.
- Demonstrated experience with CSDM and CMDB strategy and data quality alignment of platform architecture to enterprise architecture.
- Hands-on governance experience of design standards, coding conventions, reuse patterns, review processes, and citizen development guardrails.
- Strong security and compliance knowledge including access models, segregation of duties (SoD), encryption, secure SDLC, and experience producing audit-ready evidence.
- Executive-level communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics and drive alignment among senior stakeholders.
- Experience operating a global or large-scale ServiceNow footprint across multiple regions and time zones, with significant internal and external user populations.
- Familiarity with common CI/CD tooling and practices for ServiceNow, such as App Repository, GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps, static analysis, automated quality gates, and performance engineering at scale.
- Ability to define, publish, and maintain platform policies and technical guardrails, ensuring governance outcomes are measurable and improve over time.
- Experience managing vendor relationships and augmenting capacity with partners as needed.
- Ability to partner with platform architects on instance and environment strategy, including production and non-production topology, cloning, data masking, drift controls, Store app governance, and domain separation.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines with segregation of duties, code review, static analysis, linting, and automated test gates to increase change quality and speed.
- Knowledge of governing release and deployment processes, including calendar management, approvals, rollback criteria, and evidence documentation in partnership with Change PMO.
- Experience driving performance, availability, and resilience through Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, including end-to-end observability, meaningful SLOs, error budgets, capacity planning, incident, problem management, and blameless post mortems.
- Expertise in enforcing platform security and compliance, including secure SDLC, encryption, key management, access models, SoD, vulnerability and patch management, and audit readiness.
- Ability to set design standards, coding conventions, reuse patterns, review processes, and maintain a reference architecture library, enforcing adherence through automated and manual checks.
- Strong understanding of CSDM and CMDB data models, discovery service mapping, integrations, data quality KPIs, automation, and resilience.
- Experience establishing guardrails for citizen development and App Engine usage, including data, security, performance boundaries, certification, publishing workflows, monitoring, and supportability.
- Standardization of integration patterns, API event contracts, idempotency, retry strategies, IntegrationHub spoke lifecycle, MID server posture, and drift monitoring.
- Ability to engage regularly with VP-level business and technology leaders, presenting platform strategy, investment tradeoffs, risk posture, and roadmap to executive steering bodies.
- Excellent ability to translate complex technical topics into clear narratives and visuals for non-technical audiences, influencing outcomes through evidence, options, and impact framing.
- Partnering with product owners to co-create roadmaps that balance speed, scalability, and sustainability, and unblock decisions via clear standards and exception handling.
- Willingness to work from the Santa Clara, CA office in an in-office environment, in compliance with company policies.
