Job Description

This position involves designing and creating fire alarm and sprinkler system layouts, performing code reviews, and coordinating with various trades, while ensuring safety and compliance standards are met. The role requires technical drawing skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare fire alarm and fire sprinkler system drawings and layouts based on plans and specifications.
  • Determine power supply, loading requirements, and perform hydraulic calculations for fire alarm and sprinkler systems.
  • Survey and verify existing conditions support fire alarm and sprinkler system requirements.
  • Coordinate and communicate with other disciplines and trades involved in the project.
  • Conduct code reviews, investigations, and produce code summary sheets with interpretations for junior staff.
  • Document correspondence with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) and project team.
  • Maintain current technical knowledge through reading manuals, bulletins, and product brochures.
  • Ensure safety compliance by following OSHA and company safety programs.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment and take direction from management.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years experience as a Fire Alarm or Fire Sprinkler Designer preferred.
  • NICET IV certification.
  • Valid state issued driver s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem-solve and adapt to change in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to follow oral and written directions.
  • Able to be empathetic towards customers or coworkers.
  • Able to communicate effectively with coworkers, management, and customers, and display excellent interpersonal skills and awareness of controversial and or sensitive issues.
  • Ability to comply with safety requirements of the position and actively promote safe work practices.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Proper business English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to calculate basic math including fractions, percentages, decimals, and basic algebra.
  • Knowledge and ability to understand and operate basic computer functions, operating systems, and software applications such as Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Apple IOS, and Android.
  • Proficiency in advanced Word and Excel functions such as importing data and working with pivot tables.
  • Ability to learn and use industry-specific devices and software such as AutoCAD or Revit- Bluebeam.
  • Access to a plotter and drawing table.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to use hands and fingers to type or dial, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent computer use.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Able to constantly lift and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted materials such as files, books, office equipment, etc.
  • Ability to constantly push or pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Able to constantly bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, and stretch.
  • Able to constantly repeat motions that may include the wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Able to constantly use one or two hands to grasp, move or assemble objects.
  • Ability to constantly exert manual dexterity and coordination while operating office equipment such as an iPad, keyboard, mouse, calculator, or other standard office equipment.
  • Occasionally walk considerable distances in facilities during the course of work.
  • Occasionally move traverse safely over uneven terrain.
  • Occasionally remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Constantly remain in a stationary position sitting at a desk working on a computer for prolonged time.
  • Constantly use standard office equipment including personal computer and dual monitors.
  • Frequently make mathematical calculations.
  • Frequently dial, hear, and respond to telephone calls.
  • Constantly understand speech of others and speak clearly so listeners can understand.
  • Occasionally respond quickly to sounds and see/respond to dangerous situations.
  • Able to adjust focus and have close vision constantly.
  • Work with interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Position is eligible for remote work with manager approval, requiring a quiet, safe home office setup, high-speed internet, and safeguarding sensitive data.
  • Must maintain good standing, strong attendance, and no performance improvement plans to continue remote work eligibility.
  • Position requires minimal travel less than 5% of the time, with occasional travel from one worksite to another.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
