Job Description
The Technical Accounting and SEC Reporting Analyst at Planet is responsible for supporting financial reporting, developing accounting policies, ensuring compliance with US GAAP, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and external auditors to maintain accurate and transparent financial statements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development, documentation, and implementation of accounting policies and procedures in compliance with US GAAP and relevant standards
- Assist with the month-end and quarter-end close processes, focusing on complex technical accounting areas
- Research and document technical accounting positions on emerging or complex issues such as equity transactions, business combinations, and leases
- Prepare and review financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules
- Partner with cross-functional teams to assess and document accounting implications of new business initiatives, contracts, and transactions
- Collaborate with external auditors to provide supporting documentation and technical accounting memoranda
- Drive continuous improvement of accounting processes, controls, and automation
- Mentor and develop team members on technical accounting matters
- Support special projects including system implementations and process improvements
- Stay current on accounting standards and regulatory developments and implement changes as needed
Requirements
- 2 years of accounting experience, in a financial reporting or Big 4 Accounting Firm Audit role
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or other quantitative major
- Deep knowledge of US GAAP and experience with technical accounting research
- Proficiency with accounting systems NetSuite and Workiva DFIN ActiveDisclosure preferred and Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-accounting stakeholders
- Solid organizational and time-management abilities
- A keen attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Self-starter able to work independently and meet deadlines
