An Engineering Test Technician at Redwood Materials supports the development and validation of new energy storage products by building, setting up, and executing tests, troubleshooting hardware issues, and assisting with product assembly and process validation in a safety-conscious lab environment.
Key Responsibilities
Build, set up, and execute validation tests for new electromechanical products
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support FMEAs and test plan execution
Assemble, install, and maintain test infrastructure such as fixtures, sensors, actuators, chambers, and power supplies
Operate test equipment, follow procedures, and ensure safe handling of high-voltage systems and lab hardware
Collect, organize, and document test data, observations, and results
Perform basic failure triage and support failure analysis through teardown and root-cause investigations
Troubleshoot test setups and hardware issues, escalating and collaborating to resolve blockers
Support test automation and data logging tools, including running scripts and validating outputs
Assist with New Product Introduction (NPI) line operations, including product assembly and troubleshooting
Create, update, and maintain build documentation and work instructions
Manage lab inventory, organization, and power infrastructure
Assemble and validate high-voltage harnesses and electrical sub-systems, ensuring electrical safety compliance
Requirements
Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or related fields
3 years of experience in a lab, manufacturing, or test environment as a technician, engineering tech, or similar role
Experience working with or around high-voltage systems in the range of 400-2000VDC and 480-800VAC, with strong safety discipline including LOTO, PPE, and safe work practices
Strong hands-on skills with mechanical assembly, wiring, sensors, instrumentation, and lab equipment
Ability to follow test procedures, maintain detailed documentation, and produce clear test summaries
Familiarity with basic scripting or automation tools, with Python being a plus and the ability to learn new tools quickly
Strong communication and teamwork skills, able to work effectively with engineers and stakeholders across levels
Ability to perform essential physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting up to 25 lbs, typing, and performing repetitive motions
Manual dexterity to work with small components under a microscope for extended periods, including precision soldering and handling heavy copper assemblies
Ability to work in conditions that may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods
Willingness to work occasional travel, weekends, nights, or on-call as needed
